How the palettes are made
Each palette starts from one named color. A harmony rule picks the other hues: opposite on the color wheel (complementary), neighbours (analogous), three evenly spaced hues (triadic), the two neighbours of the opposite (split-complementary), four hues in a rectangle (tetradic) or lighter and darker versions of the same hue (monochromatic). Every generated color is then matched to its nearest named color, so you get names you can talk about, not just codes.
Checked for readability
For every palette we work out the contrast ratio of each pair of colors under the WCAG guidelines and show which pairs are safe for body text (AA or AAA) and which only for large headings.
